Olashirt - A girl and her Cavalier King Charles Spaniel living Life In Peace shirt

A girl and her Cavalier King Charles Spaniel living Life In Peace shirt, hoodie, sweater shirt

This excellent little book addresses the issue of racism in America by taking two things very seriously -- the Christian Scriptures and the Black experience. McCaulley contends that the Christian Scriptures have much to say about contemporary issues facing Black Americans (and America as a whole), issues like policing, political action, and the existence of rage in the face of injustice. He also contends that Black Christians who have lived their lives in a culture that is the offspring of a slave society have a unique and powerful insight into the Scriptures. Their experiences often allows them to see things in the Scripture that others, who have not had that experience, cannot or do not see.

This idea that our experiences shape and influence the way we read and understand the Bible is often controversial among American evangelicals. Many evangelical Christians assume that since the Bible is God's word to his people, he will make it clear to us and we can and should all read it and understand it in essentially the same way. The idea that some people might have unique insight into the Scripture because of their experiences is often seen as privileging personal experience over the authority of Scripture or as privileging certain people over certain other people. For either reason (or both) the idea is often immediately rejected.
